The 2010 Art Festival at Thornebrook – October 2nd & 3rd 2010

Bill Hutchinson, Entertainment Director

Thornebrook’s annual art festival continues to offer music as varied as the visual arts that set the stage. Some of the area’s most-loved performers will be on hand to play a variety of music that’s sure to please almost every taste and still leave plenty of space for conversation as they float though the air.

SAXOPHONE JAZZ- The Dave Sloane Jazz Project features the best saxophone moods around. Dave Sloane and his band take the stage to set a mood of relaxing and elegant jazz, playing two great shows on Saturday.

COUNTRY & AMERICANA - Boulware & Stewart will cook up some lovely sounds with great, sincere vocals and a reliable guitar twang. This band will make a believer of you as you wait for a “Merle moment” or a light-hearted look at “Hick Hop”.

CLASSIC POP from the 30s through the 70s. - Amusica includes everything from Gershwin to the Beatles. The band plays 3 sets on Saturday with stunning vocalist Jennifer Johnson, Bill Hutchinson on guitar, John Netardus on oboe and clarinet and David Turner on cello and bass. This group is musically literate and fun.

20s & 30s JAZZ – Long Over Duo offers a playful look into the hot jazz of Europe and America in the early 20th Century. This lively duo of guitar and violin play compelling sounds reminiscent of dimly lit bars and scratchy 78s.

FOLK AND POP- Jana Horton is a remarkable singer. She’s a lifelong Gainesville resident, known for her work with the Centerline Band and her current band, Another Fine Mess. Today she appears with the much-respected musician, Jon Alexander.

CLASSICAL MUSIC - We are very proud to announce a return appearance by the Baroque virtuosos of The Alachua Consort. Violin, oboe and harpsichord unite to make timeless, elegant music and a lovely atmosphere.

HARP- Master Harpist Rupert Parker will be on hand to show just how wonderful a full harp can sound by adding a little electricity in tech and technique. He’s played everywhere from Harrad’s in London to Gatlinburg.
