140 fine artists and fine craftsmen will be exhibiting October 4 - 5, 2008, in Gainesville, FL in the park-like setting of Thornebrook Village. This festival is entering its’ 24th year under the auspices of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association, a 501(c)3 educational organization, and the Thornebrook Merchants Association. An attendance of over 30,000 is expected at this free event.

Local and Southeastern artists and fine craftsmen will be providing paintings – oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels; photography – black and white, still life, color and nature studies; mixed media; sculpture – stone and metal; fiber arts – quilts, weaving, feather masks; clay/ceramics – traditional, functional and sculptural; jewelry – silver and gold with semi-precious stones, beadwork, beach glass; wood – furniture to beautifully turned vessels; graphics and drawing – hand-drawn pencil work to digital.

The show will have entertainment in four separate venues. Entertainment

Director Bill Hutchinson, has signed a variety of local musicians. Jazz, Blues, classical, pop and harp are some of the sounds to be heard during the festival. Amusica Pop Ensemble, Dave Sloan Jazz Project, Hot Club Deville, Master Harpist Rupert Parker, Boulware and Stewart, Alachua Consort, and Edan Archer. Performing throughout the crowds will be the House of Flying Cards Magicians.  More information on the groups can be found on the web site.

Children will be able to build sand art pieces, have their faces painted at Expressions Learning Arts Academy, or be creative at Do Art with low cost kits for projects during the show.

Food is always a festival feature that people look forward to. The three restaurants within Thornebrook will provide a definite step up from the usual festival fare. Bageland has a selection of bagels and breakfast platters, freshly made sandwich plates, salads and quiches, sweets and drinks including fancy coffees. Dinner at Thornebrook will feature fresh locally grown gourmet selections of soups, salads and entrees. Mario’s Bistro will feature tapas. Bageland will also be providing hot dogs and hamburgers at an additional location within the festival grounds. Non-profits will provide snacks and drinks along with Emerald’s Lounge for great libations, TCBY for frozen treats and Thornebrook Chocolates will, of course, have their famous handmade candies. This year we are adding Kettle Korn, The Original Nut Hut, gyros, smoothies and Bar-B-Q from local vendors.
